SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Which imparts Catholic teaching, Christian values, and promotes community service

INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT

Which fosters academic achievement, builds self-esteem, self-discipline, and the essential skills for life-long learning,

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Which while celebrating the differences of others and by using responsible decision making, students will exhibit qualities of good citizenship with the motivation to invent, dream and explore in our changing world.

Philosophy

St. Anthony's operates in partnership with parents always recognizing and supporting parents as the primary educators of their children. Parents are an integral part of our school. At SACS, we teach the whole child. Spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical development are supported. Students are challenged to distinguish between right and wrong, to make moral choices, and to understand the consequences of actions. Students are encouraged to always do their best and to know that they have God-given talents to be used for the benefit of others and the glory of God. Through our religion program and school-wide activities, students have many opportunities to live and grow in faith. Through service to the community, our students also have first-hand experience in seeing how they, as individuals, can make a difference in the world.

PRIDE

St. Anthony Cathedral School students strive for excellence in all areas. Our compelling academic program provides children with the necessary skills to be successful. Students participate in practical lab lessons while learning new theories in science and math. Computer technology is a mainstay of both our elementary and middle school curriculum. All levels are actively involved in both writing and publishing. Many students are involved in multi-media productions while others are drawn to leadership opportunities only available in a small school setting. Service proj ects are encouraged by our faculty and staff while mirrored by our ever present Home and School Association. Our students are proud to be a part of a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school.

TRADITION

The richness of our Faith, the Sacramental life of the Church, and the long history of St. Anthony's permeate our school. Our children attend Mass weekly and Confession monthly. We begin and end each day with prayer. St. Anthony students live their faith by serving others. Their generosity is evident. Many students dedicate their allowances when we are collecting for the Dominican school in Guatemala or other worthy causes too numerous to mention. Our upper c1assmen tutor younger children as part of their many Honor Society service projects. Many of our generous alumni continue to support St. Anthony School by volunteering and assisting with school fund-raisers.

SPIRIT

The spirit of St. Anthony's is alive. It is a living witness to the dedication of the Dominican Sisters, especially those who came to Beaumont over 100 years ago. This is a testimony that we Catholics take seriously, our charge to educate our children in the Faith.
We live by these words:

Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school.
He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classrooms.
He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.

History

St. Anthony Cathedral School has been providing excellence in education to Beaumont families since1895. The Dominican Sisters came to Beaumont by train and rode through town in a horse-drawn carriage. They established Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent School that same year. This was the beginning of St. Anthony Cathedral School.

As the only elementary and middle school in downtown Beaumont, the Cathedral School celebrated its centennial birthday in 1995 and was awarded the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation in 1999. St. Anthony is the only parochial elementary/middle school in the Beaumont Diocese, and one of only three schools in the City of Beaumont, to be granted this national award by the United States Department of Education.

St. Anthony was one of the first Catholic schools to be accredited by the Texas Education Agency in the 1920s. The school is now under the auspices of the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED), and adheres to its rigid standards, which surpass those of the Texas Education Agency. All accreditation standards for teaching certification are met.

St. Anthony Cathedral School of Today

“We have a great school with a strong sense of family and community working together to provide the very best education for our children.”

Our program begins with pre-kindergarten (three-year-old program), which is housed in a two-year-old facility surrounded by a new and equally wonderful playground area. Our elementary and middle school continues with kindergarten through eighth grade. Because we are a small school, students experience many opportunities for leadership in both religious and academic settings. Weekly Mass and religion classes enhance our educational environment.

To support our educational program we have a fully equipped science lab dedicated to hands-on laboratory experimentation – which is of tremendous benefit to our upper grades. Through examining the world around them, our students learn first-hand about the true applications of science. Our computer technology program is integrated into our classrooms with Internet access for research and instructional purposes.

Our library is an outstanding addition to our curriculum and the students' love of learning through reading. The nurturing environment of St. Anthony is further enriched by foreign language classes (French and Spanish), fine arts emphasizing music and art, plus curriculum-based field trips for all classes.

We currently have over two hundred students enrolled in our school, with one section of each grade. The dedicated faculty and staff continually strive to maintain high standards in curriculum, textbooks, and physical facilities.
