History
St. Anthony Cathedral School has been providing excellence in education to Beaumont families since1895. The Dominican Sisters came to Beaumont by train and rode through town in a horse-drawn carriage. They established Our Lady of Perpetual Help Convent School that same year. This was the beginning of St. Anthony Cathedral School.
As the only elementary and middle school in downtown Beaumont, the Cathedral School celebrated its centennial birthday in 1995 and was awarded the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation in 1999. St. Anthony is the only parochial elementary/middle school in the Beaumont Diocese, and one of only three schools in the City of Beaumont, to be granted this national award by the United States Department of Education.
St. Anthony was one of the first Catholic schools to be accredited by the Texas Education Agency in the 1920s. The school is now under the auspices of the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED), and adheres to its rigid standards, which surpass those of the Texas Education Agency. All accreditation standards for teaching certification are met.
St. Anthony Cathedral School of Today
“We have a great school with a strong sense of family and community working together to provide the very best education for our children.” |
Our program begins with pre-kindergarten (three-year-old program), which is housed in a two-year-old facility surrounded by a new and equally wonderful playground area. Our elementary and middle school continues with kindergarten through eighth grade. Because we are a small school, students experience many opportunities for leadership in both religious and academic settings. Weekly Mass and religion classes enhance our educational environment.
To support our educational program we have a fully equipped science lab dedicated to hands-on laboratory experimentation – which is of tremendous benefit to our upper grades. Through examining the world around them, our students learn first-hand about the true applications of science. Our computer technology program is integrated into our classrooms with Internet access for research and instructional purposes.
Our library is an outstanding addition to our curriculum and the students' love of learning through reading. The nurturing environment of St. Anthony is further enriched by foreign language classes (French and Spanish), fine arts emphasizing music and art, plus curriculum-based field trips for all classes.
We currently have over two hundred students enrolled in our school, with one section of each grade. The dedicated faculty and staff continually strive to maintain high standards in curriculum, textbooks, and physical facilities.
